Time for Reflection

Just hours away now, our reunion will bring together our largest class assembly since graduation. We all have many stories to share, and will likely see the time together as too brief.

Please make sure to join us Saturday morning for "Town Meeting for the Class of 1985: Taking stock @25" (10:30am, Caswell Library in the Main School Building). This will be our opportunity to explore ways to stay connected and to set goals for making the Class of 1985 the best Deerfield class ever.

Our weekend will also celebrate memories of classmates, teachers, and members of the Deerfield family who have passed away. This will take place in conversations, and also at the Brick Church on Sunday morning (8:30 am). See this website for names of the deceased. For Chris Bailey's boys, visit their site here.

Safe travels!

Bailey Commemoration

I returned late last night from Barre, VT. My image of Chris and Deanna's boys is as real as if they were still alive.

Nearly eight hundred people attended the service, mostly local folks but many others, too. Grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends spoke—as did Chris and Deanna.

The program featured piano music Solon had performed and even composed. Condolences from their fourth and seventh grade classmates filled the walls. Chris and Deanna also shared several pictures of their sons, from their years as infants to just a few weeks ago.

Many Deerfield classmates have asked about doing something as a class. We're currently considering different options, and will look to Chris for guidance. I'm expecting to have a concrete plan in place in the next two weeks. Whatever we do will likely tie into the reunion.

In the meantime, continue to reach out to Chris. He has already received many letters from us, each one providing important comfort and something he and Deanna can revisit over time.

Please contact me with any questions. As you well know, staying in touch matters in times such as this.

Read a news story here about the service.

Le Chef entre nous...

Bistrot Zinc

“Your classic neighborhood bistro” is a “quiet getaway” just “a few paces from the hubbub of Rush Street”, where the “good take on standard” French food and “charming atmosphere” (an “authentic zinc bar”) serve up “a little bit of Paris in the Gold Coast”; P.S. contributors compliment the “outstanding child-friendly weekend brunch.” -- Zagat

“Not your grandpa’s steakhouse”, this “suave” TriBeCa version goes well beyond red meat as it attracts “suits” and “young singles” with its first-class fare, “solicitous” service and a next-door “bar scene that’s a blast”... -- Zagat
